Who were you before the world told you who you should be?
I truly believe this is one of the most important questions we can be asking ourselves.
Throughout our lives, we receive so many messages about who we “should” be in the world and what we “should” do. So many of us end up feeling disconnected from our inner knowing. One of the best ways to reconnect with this part of our selves is through inner child work.
As children, we began to learn these narratives about our roles and responsibilities. Sometimes we learned these from our family of origin, other times from society more broadly. Many of us may have had to learn certain ways of being in the world in order to stay safe, or avoid painful consequences. Regardless of your experience growing up, we all carry wounds from our childhood. And our inner child often shows up in these ways in our life now.
But we also carry a great deal of wisdom when we can connect to that younger self and understand how our foundations and roots got us to where we are now.
