I’m so glad you are here. Choosing to engage in therapy is a courageous step and I want to honour that bravery in you.
How I can support you…
I offer in-person counselling services on Salt Spring Island and online. Here’s how we can work together:
I have experience supporting individuals with significant trauma histories through a trauma-informed approach that keeps you safe while exploring your symptoms and experiences.
Anxiety & Depression
I can help you cope with ongoing anxiety and depression symptoms and work to find greater emotional freedom. Using a variety of approaches and extensive experience, we can address your anxious thoughts and feelings together.
Recovering Your True Self
Throughout our lives we get so many messages about who we “should“ be that we often lose sight of who we really are. I’m committed to support you to recover your true self and come back into alignment with who you want to be.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing can be a helpful addition to therapy sessions to help decrease the distress associated with recurring memories or other painful thoughts and emotions. EMDR is only available for in-person clients on Salt Spring Island. You can read more about EMDR here.
This works the same as in-person counselling except we meet via video online. Everything is exactly the same and you can access my services from the comfort of your own home.
If you are feeling nervous or uncomfortable with face-to-face sessions, I also offer email counselling. Please contact me to inquire.
Please note: My counselling practice is currently full, but if you would like to be added to my waitlist please click below to fill out a brief intake form. Depending on your needs, I likely will not have availability for several months – though I am happy to let you know if this changes or something opens up sooner.
Here’s what you need to know about how we’ll work together…
How does individual counselling work?
Working with a counsellor for the first time can be a daunting process. Whether you’ve done this before, or you’ve never seen a therapist, there’s a lot to consider. I’ve tried to answer the common questions I receive about my services below, but if you still have questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out and ask.
How much does counselling cost?
All individual appointments are $136.50 CAD including tax for a 60 minute session. Sessions are pay as you go and there is no obligation to book more than one session at a time, though you are more than welcome to. (For international clients my fees are $140 CAD per hour long session to cover additional processing fees).
If you are a local client based on Salt Spring Island and cannot afford these fees, please contact me. Depending on my availability, I may be able to offer some rate flexibility for local in-person clients.
I accept payment via e-transfer. If you need to pay by credit card, that is an option, though a small fee will be applied. International clients will receive an invoice payable online. Payment is expected at the close of the appointment or by the end of day if paying by e-transfer or online. I send clients receipts that include all the necessary information required to submit to your insurance provider if they cover Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCC).
Can I work with you online?
Absolutely! If you’re not located on Salt Spring Island, BC or need to access counselling online for any other reason, I would be happy to work with you that way. I can work with clients located anywhere in Canada except Quebec. I can also work with clients in most other countries, including the UK and Australia. Due to licensing issues, unfortunately I cannot offer counselling to clients in the United States.
Everything works the same as in-person counselling except we’re connected to each other by computer. I use either Doxy or Zoom and will send you a private link to our session before we start. Payment, in this case, must be made by e-transfer.
Do you offer EMDR?
You betcha! If we’re meeting in-person I can do EMDR for you. I am certified in Basic EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and am happy to incorporate this approach into our sessions. EMDR can be a more effective way to reduce the distress associated with certain recurring thoughts, emotions and memories. If you’re interested in this approach and want to learn more, you can read more about it on this page here.
Will my insurance cover your services?
What extended health benefit providers cover varies depending on your policy and what your employer has chosen to cover within that policy. Unfortunately, I cannot offer direct billing and if you are relying on insurance coverage you will need to submit receipts after our sessions.
I recommend that clients contact their insurance providers directly to find out if counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor is covered and to what extent.
Your benefits provider will most likely need to know the following information:
I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology.
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). My membership number is 17836.
What counselling approaches do you use?
I approach my work from a variety of perspectives. My approach and training includes cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness, interpersonal approaches, attachment theory, emotion-focused therapy and some somatic techniques. I will also incorporate psychoeducation to explain why things are happening and help improve your understanding of your own emotions and reactions. I am also trained in EMDR.
As well, all of the work I do is founded in trauma-informed practice. This means, even if we aren’t directly dealing with trauma, I am focused on ensuring we are deeply sensitive to you emotional state. We will move at a pace that ensures you do not become emotionally overwhelmed throughout the process.
